If that’s you: consider Beyond the Classroom (BTC). Our 3-semester leadership program brings together UMD students from all majors to prepare for a lifetime of personal and professional civic engagement and social change in any career field.

Our program combines:

Coursework & Seminars

Earn credit and get a BTC transcript notation in Civic Engagement and Social Change for completing the program. Engage with your peers and the public in our weekly seminars on major civic issues.

A Professional Internship

Complete an internship that matters (anywhere in the world). Your path to professional growth is totally integrated into the BTC program— from our 1-on-1 career advising meetings to your final capstone project. Learn more.

Service Learning & Events
